Hi everyone, Welcome to the Online Irish Tin Whistle Mini Course!
My name is Declan Plummer and I’m the creator and teacher of this course, which I’ve designed to explore the unique and majestic sweet sound of the Irish Tin Whistle. This short mini course is the perfect introduction for anyone curious about learning traditional Irish music. Whether you're completely new to the tin whistle or just want a structured refresher, this course will walk you through the core fundamentals of tin whistle playing and immediately apply those skills to a well-loved Irish jig: Garrett Barry’s.
In this course, students will learn:
- How to hold the instrument properly for tone and control
- Basics of breath support and fingering techniques
- How to read Irish traditional music notation, including ornamentation
- The structure and rhythm of an Irish jig
- How to play Garrett Barry’s Jig in a simple version, and later with ornamentation and variation
